Financial Foundations: Equipping Students with Skills for Life

13:35 - 14:15

The interim report from the National Curriculum Review (March 2025) revealed a clear message from both parents and students: schools need to place greater emphasis on financial education. According to the National Parent Survey cited in the report, nearly half of parents (48%) believe too little time is spent developing financial management skills.

Responding to this call, this session will explore how to teach financial risk in an increasingly complex world, from online scams to emerging trends like cryptocurrency and gaming. It aims to equip teachers with the confidence, knowledge, and resources to deliver these essential lessons effectively, while strengthening their school’s wider PSHE and financial education offer.

The session will be delivered by two experienced secondary teachers on FT FLIC’s Content Team.

Session Focus
  • Understanding financial risks facing young people today: including moneymuling, online gaming, and cryptocurrency – with insights that extend teachers’ own financial awareness.
  • Placing these topics within a broader financial literacy framework: showing how risk awareness fits into a well-rounded secondary school curriculum and may support your school’s safeguarding provision.
  • Building teacher confidence: strategies for engaging students, addressing sensitive topics, and adapting lessons for different age groups or abilities.
  • Bolstering PSHE provision:showcasinghow independent, evidence-based resources can enhance your school’s existing offer.
